Arrived in Iceland and just explored a first gem
After some hectic last days in Switzerland we are finally on Icelandic ground. The last week before take off anyhow passes faster and on top we received on Tuesday evening the message from our first host, that she is overbooked ... what the hack ...
Well after some emails and calls things where sorted out and we had a great first stay experiencing family friendly hospitality.
Focus of the first 24 hours around Reykjavik was to get our big 4x4 car, do grocery shopping to cover the basic for our stay in Iceland and head north to leave the Capitals agglomeration behind us.
But what's in for the kids? A stay around Hafnarfjördur the "Capital" of the Elves and introduce them into the wonderful world of Icelandic Saga and mystic world. Telling them the story while walking through the Elves-Park and looking for the places where the hidden people may live. A thread easily to continue in the upcoming days.
As we love remote places our first "real" stop was at the Horsefarm Berg just outside Grundafjördur on Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We immediately felt in love with this cottages almost surrounded by paddocks, the impressive Kirkjufell in the back and a direct view towards the light house at the coast. The kids were happy too as the veranda was a perfect place to play soccer.
The weather on Snaefellsnes was by far better than in Reykjavik and not even close to what we suspected after the announcement of the worst summer in Iceland since 100 years and closed-4-layer-clouds when we arrived on Friday.
Unfortunately already a bit too late for a walk to the lighthouse with the kids, so we just made it to the stable where we met the daughter of our host and of course the boys had a lot of questions around topics.
